Things to do in the Great Smoky Mountains

The Great Smoky Mountains are America’s most-visited national park for a reason. Impressive waterfalls, views stretching for miles, roaming wildlife including black bears and the best natural landscape for hiking, horse-riding and skiing add up to a fantastic getaway.

Our cabin retreats in and around Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge provide a superb environment for exploring the Smokies.

Here are a few favorite things to do when you book a vacation in The Smokies with Stay Simpli.

Location

Gatlinburg Space Needle

Gatlinburg Space Needle

To marvel at the incredible mountain views, head to the observation deck of the iconic Gatlinburg Space Needle. Remember to keep your phone charged because you´ll be sure to take plenty of photos of these superb panoramic views.

The Island Pigeon Forge

Dollywood and The Island

Sticking with our favorite country singer, Dolly Parton, kids of all ages will love a trip to Dollywood. There’s an incredible collection of rides, roller coasters, shows, food – the hot dogs are yummy – and a water park. Hurrah for Dollywood!

More thrills await you at The Island Pigeon Forge where climbing ropes, building your very own bear, and more fun adventures are the order of the day.

Anakeesta Theme Park

For an action-packed adventure, a day out at the Anakeesta theme park makes you feel like you’re taking part in the best kids’ movie ever. The magical mountain experience features a 14-bridge Treetop Skywalk, 360º mountains views from the AnaVista Tower, or why not take the TreeVenture challenge course?

Visit Ole Smoky Moonshine Distillery

After so many activities and all that fresh mountain air, you deserve some downtime and a glass of moonshine!

The Ole Smoky Tennessee Distillery in Gatlinburg has been making moonshine for more than 100 years. As well as lipsmacklingly-moreish moonshine, the distillery continues to try new flavors including Apple Pie – just not quite like mom used to make!

From our vacation rental properties with cabin retreats in the Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge areas, you’re in the best places to sample some of these delightful activities in the Great Smoky Mountains. Book your accommodation today.

Golf Amid Natural Beauty

As a nation of golfers, America has some mighty fine courses. During your vacation, you’ll find top courses amid the rich natural environment In and around Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge.

Designed by one of the world’s finest golfers Gary Player, Bent Creek Golf Club has nine holes in a valley and another nine in more mountainous land. If you´re looking for a round of golf with stunning views over the Smoky Mountains, then Sevierville Golf Club is a top choice.

Gatlinburg

Downtown Gatlinburg

Gatlinburg is a busy tourist town at the entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains. There’s plenty to keep you occupied – we´ve already mentioned the Gatlinburg Space Needle. But you can take in shows and entertainment at the Iris Theater, have hands-on fun at the Pinball Museum, witness animal magic at Ripley’s Aquarium, be inspired at the Guinness World of Records Museum and the curious Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Odditorium dedicated to adventurer and cartoonist Robert L. Ripley.

Foodies are well catered for too. You should try the fresh trout at the Smoky Mountain Trout House, the best steaks in downtown Gatlinburg (as many people will tell you) at The Peddler and the fluffiest pancakes at the Pancake Pantry, Tennessee´s first pancake house and still going strong 60 years later.
